About Road Contractors Mutual Insurance Company Road Contractors Mutual Insurance Company (RCMIC) was born out of the Tennessee Road Builders Association Self Insured Trust (TRBASIT). For over ten years, the TRBASIT has successfully served the workers’ compensation needs of the road building industry in Tennessee. By employing results-driven loss control measures and proactive claims management practices, members of the TRBASIT have reaped the financial benefits resulting from a twenty-six percent average improvement in the experience modification in the last five years. To better meet the changing needs of our industry, the Board of Directors conducted a strategic review with the objective of charting a new course built upon the success achieved by TRBASIT. The board further sought to create a workers’ compensation solution that is the first choice for members. After receiving input from TRBASIT members, insurance agents, and industry professionals, the board concluded that transitioning from a self-insured trust to a mutual insurance company provided the best opportunity to achieve the objectives. Following this decision, the board engaged their network of professional advisors including actuaries, attorneys, and insurance administrator to begin the work of forming RCMIC. The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance granted the company its certificate of approval in December of 2006.
